i want to listen to my local fd, and they dispatch 6 - 8 fire depts on one channel. Someone recommended me to get a pager,
does this one seem good?

Minitor pager question

Unless the departments are using the same tones, it won't work with a Minitor II.

A Minitor V will do 8 pairs of different frequencies and you don't have to track down the reeds.

It's not hard at all if you pay a Motorola radio tech to reprogram it...

A scanner would be a good tool.

A minitor II would need to get new crystals and new tone reeds and then needs to be retuned. The minitor III, IV, & V can be reprogrammed via computer.

landonjensen did not express this well, but based on his other posts on this subject, he is only interested in listening to one of departments being dispatched, so just monitoring the channel isn't what he is after, hence why he was looking at a pager. He is aware of the options of using one of the newer Uniden scanner models, but I suspect that he finds it silly (like me) to turn an expensive scanner into a pager on a 24/7 basis.
