Heard some interesting comms earlier this morning on
tg 1840 OSP District 6 Events. It was being used by the OSP
for the advanced detail clearing Interstate 71 ahead of
VP Candidate Sarah Palin's motorcade as she left town.

Why a District 6 talkgroup was being used in District 8
territory I can only speculate. Perhaps the extra duty officers
needed for the detail were from District 6. They were using it
as a chatter channel amongst themselves. They made references
that Cincinnati PD units were also part of the motorcade.

That must be the standard channel for executive escort throughout the state 'cause I heard them today with Biden in town, heard 'em Sunday with Palin around and heard 'em a few weeks ago when McCain was down.... all on 1840 and whats more, the local Dist 7 post troopers were CLUELESS as to what was going on because one radioed another that "a couple of our motorcycle units just whizzed by me on 470 at the 3" (another trooper then keyed up and told them that it probably had to do with McCains passing through the area)

On Sunday, ch 1840 was quite active on my local tower for over two hours after they concluded the escort of Palins motorcade to the WV State Line. The motormen could be heard rambling all the way back to Cincinnati although they peeled off one by one at their respective exits along the way. They talked about everything from deer to "the family farm 2 miles due north of that tower" to who was coming in late for work the following day to "that guy threw something out his window- didn't he " which turned out to be escaped windshield washer fluid (always great when you're ridin' and somebody does that to you - especially on a chilly October night)

Although I think it's overkill for a VP candidate, it's very interesting the way the OSHP conducts these escorts... Heck when Ohio transferred the motorcade to West Virginia, the WVSP's idea of an escort is one cruiser in front of the pack and one at the end (and no communication along the way until it was about to be handed over to Pennsylvania)
