Palm Beach County and Whistler TRX-1

Anyone else in Palm Beach County have a Whistler TRX-1 or 2? How is your reception of PBCFD? I'm in the central part of Palm Beach. I am pretty sure the receiption issues I have are related to a simulcast receiving issue with the scanner. I can pick up Boynton Beach crystal clear but the Palm Beach system gets digitized a bunch. So much so where I've pretty much stopped using the radio. Some days it is coming in fine, but other times, it is barely legible. I remember taking the scanner with me to Broward once, and it was picking up Palm Beach perfect. The ride back on 441 was great until around Atlantic or so. This is why I believe it is a simulcasting issue. I wonder since there are a few random days the system will be work fine, but most others I can barely make out one word of a broadcast. This is NOT an encryption issue.

When you refer to the Palm Beach System are you referring to the "Countywide" site? Also have you tried the Delray site as well?

Yes, the Countywide site. Didn't think of trying to listen to PBFD via Delray site (or any others), figured it would be only on county-wide since it is county-wide. Still figuring out this stuff years later.

Tried using any of the other sites (locked out countywide) and received zero communications. Those sites work fine for their talk groups, like Boynton FD/PD on the Boynton Site, Delray on the Delray site, etc. Thanks for the idea.

PBCFR is on the County site. The Delray site only carries Delray traffic and PD is encrypted. Delray Fire is on County though. Boynton site only carries Boynton traffic. PD is also encrypted. Boca is still on the old Smartzone system on their site.

You are suffering from simulcast distortion. I used a PSR-800 and it misses a ton of traffic. Switched to a Unication G5 and have full bars everywhere in the County. I can pick up the County site from the turnpike and 595 with its factory stubby antenna to give you some perspective. In the opposite direction, I can pick up Miami Dade’s P25 system from the turnpike and sawgrass. My PSR was deaf on Miami-Dade’s system.

Thank you both. I was pretty sure this was the issue, but wanted a bit of verification. At least I know there is not much I can do to fix things. I may try the waveguide or other styles of antenna which might be able to isolate one source, but not counting on much success based on my location and where the towers are. I understand the need for the system updates for those who actually use it, buy I miss my old PSR500 working perfectly, and my older BC250D before the reband.
