Hello All,

Well, I have a mid-90's Radio Shack PRO-46 and a brand spankin new Police Call 2005 Edition book. When I put in those trunk frequencies in all I hear is something that resembles morse code. And every now and again I'll hear 3 words from 3 different people? What is going on here?

I know this isn't a trunk tracker, and if that is the problem, can you point me to an inexpensive quality trunk tracker? I have a Uniden BC100XLT from late-80's/early-90's and it still works. No 800's but it works. :)

Oh and I hope that Lake Worth Highway Maintainence isn't moving to the trunk. They are so funny and cute and I just love them! :)

Thank You!

Palm Beach County uses a Motorola trunked system. If you are trying to use a non trunking scanner, all you can hope to hear is bits and pieces of unrelated conversations. Most traffic on the system is not digital, so a Uniden BC-246T or a Radio Shack PRO-95 or PRO-97 would work fine on the Palm Beach County system. Keep in mind that if you are also interested in cities like Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, and Delray Beach, these cities are all digital for police and fire/rescue, so you would need a digital scanner like the Radio Shack PRO-96, Uniden BCD396, BC296, or BC796 if you wanted to monitor these.

Update

Hello!

Well, yesterday I decided to get a PRO-95. Clearance price of only $150. Great deal. I LOVE this scanner. I don't have to remember what the channel #'s are anymore...it has a display that I can type the name of the channel...like Channel #603 is "GreenacresP1".

To all who are looking for a trunk scanner I have to recommend it. I have been playing with it since 1PM yesterday (minus sleep) and still don't have all the trunk groups plugged in yet...way way way too many.

Ken, I haven't tried Delray or Boca but Boynton is on the county trunk NON-digital so I can get it.

Does anyone know if the FPL-Riviera is still active? I put it in but there's no traffic. They are EDACS, right?

Ken, Thanks again for recommending this scanner. I am so glad I got it (and saved $300 not getting the digital one).

FP&L is EDACS narrowband, which the PRO-95 can't do.

The info I have says Boynton Beach police and fire are digital, their channels are one site of the Palm Beach County Smartzone system. I haven't confirmed that personally.

Boynton, Delray, and Boca are seperate sites off of the PBC Smartzone.
You have to enter in their control channels seperately their talk-groups typicially don't roam to each others or to the County Simul. System.
