Hello,

First of all I have been listening to a scanner of some sort all of my life. I really enjoy it.

What I don't understand is what is "trunking"?

Also I would like to know if anyone knows what the FHP numbers are while they are still not on the encrypted system. And is there a way that someday somehow we will be able to scan an encrypted system?

Hi jayfurd! I was just on your website...I love the cute little scanner graphic on the scanner page! It's cool

That probably means that I just can't put that frequency in a normal scanner, huh?

I don't have any special trunking scanners, just 2 Uniden Bearcat's...one very old the BC100XLT (which I'm listening to Lake Worth right now on!) and another newer one like from 1999 (which is capable of getting the 800's that this one isn't).

Do I absolutely have to buy a new scanner to recieve the trunking freq's or is there a way to get them on these Bearcat's?

If you enjoy listening to Lake Worth you will eventually have to
buy a trunked scanner as I'm in the process of moving them from VHF
to the County TRS that I manage.

The complete migration will be done in the October/November time frame.

Wow, thanks Mark! So LW will be on county's trunk...interesting.

So does that mean that my Radio Shack PRO-46 won't let me listen to trunks? I tried to go on their website but they don't have a manual.

Without a trunk tracking scanner, all you will be able to do is listen to bits and pieces of different conversations. A trunk tracking scanner will allow you to know what specific agency or group is speaking, and you can hold on one specific talkgroup if you desire. You can't do that with a non-trunking scanner.

And no, you will never be able to monitor an encrypted system. Next to impossible for one thing, and illegal too.
