Anyone know what PL Tone Paramus is using on their 33.44 simulcast paging channel. I have heard 136.5 but cannot confirm.

Thanks,

Mark

Don't bother... we're taking down the simulcast soon due to system upgrades in headquarters.

453.1500 136.5 and 453.3750 136.5 will be the only active repeaterized frequencies used by the fire department.

Thanks for the update. Can you tell me when this is going to happen. It seems that one of the sites in my county in Connecticut is receiving your 33.44 simulcast loud and clear when off PL. Our PL tone is 179.9 and for some reason even when we are on PL you are still getting into our system. Not as clear when we are off PL but it is still breaking squelch. It seems to follow atmospheric disturbances but it will be good to know when you are planning to suspend your 33.44 transmission.

Thanks for the info!!

If I had money to bet with, I'd bet what you are hearing has nothing to do with atmospherics and has everything to do with a slight 60 Hz hum in the Paramus base station (probably an older base). Something is imposing a 60 Hz hum onto the transmitted audio. Generally two sources: a power supply problem, or audio network problem (usually one side of what should be a balanced control line shorted to ground).

Two PLs that are extremely susceptible to opening to 60 Hz hum are 118.8 Hz - very close to 120 Hz, the second harmonic of 60 Hz, AND 179.9 Hz - very close to 180.0 Hz, the third harmonic of 60 Hz. The 0.2 and 0.1 Hz difference is not enough to exclude falsing.

Two courses of action - address what may be a problem in the base that is superimposing 60 Hz on its audio output, or change the PL of the receiving station to something else. Those tones will always predispose you to receiving noise from distant stations and eventually BPL.

So does that mean firefighters and rescue squad members with 33.44 MHz pagers will no longer be able to monitor activity on the main repeater channel (453.150)?

By the way, are you guys aware that 453.375 comes in much stronger everywhere around Bergen County than 453.15 does? Why don't you switch frequencies, or move 453.15 to the same site that 453.375 is located? I believe 453.15 was low power to protect Elizabeth Fire, but they've long sinced moved off the frequency.

453.1500 MHz R (PL 127.3 Hz) is now the Union County Fire Mutual Aid frequency. They have 2 or 3 simlucast sites running.

453.150 127.3 was the main fire channel for Elizabeth for years. Elizabeth now uses two 500 mhz channels while the county of union has taken over 453.1500 for county-wide M/A fire operations.

we've had quite a few problems with 33.44 including getting ct over our uhf due to the cross band... i can't give you a specific date cuz we just got the grant recently, but things are in the works i can assure you. as for the fd and rescue guys w/ 33.44 pagers, they are being phased out as we speak. there are very few guys that actually still have the low band pagers. they just don't work well anymore (pager and hq issues)

So what frequency are you now going to page on? I can't imagine you're paging on 453.150 considering how crappy the signal is.

Doesn't answer the question. Will paging still be on 453.150R?

Chris,

Here's what Scanner Master shows for FD:
F1 453.150R (136.5) Dispatch
F2 453.150S (136.5)
F3 453.375R (136.5) Fire inspectors
F4 453.375S (136.5)
155.295 (corrected to: 446)

Something slipped past me here...? ?

Paramus FD has new tacticals? New firegrounds? New operations channels?

Pray tell,

And how good a signal do they have to have? Should they be heard in other counties or only near their town where the volunters are? Do you think a volunteer should respond from Mahwah to Paramus on an alarm, blue light and all racing down 17? It's local use. They are overpowered if the other freq. are heard countywide.

This is part of the reason that a countywide radio system is the answer. I know it means giving up your little kingdoms but it's 2008 not 1958!

All the new tactical frequencies are on my website. Here's a direct link to the Paramus section:http://bergenscanner.com/municipal.shtml#paramus The stuff in Scanner Master is pretty much worthless!
