I use to scan alot and still do from time to time and was thinking about picking up a Yupiteru 9000, 7100 or Ar 7200 mk3. In most all scanner forums and scanners i see people discussing trunk tracking, digital scanners. Is it any digital or trunk tracking frequencies activity in my area? Paris, TN and Henry County? If not, i do not see why i need a digital scanner. Any Fort Campbell freqs is appreciated also and aircraft in my area.
Thanks,

Nearest trunking for Paris would be Paducah, Kentucky; Jackson, Tennessee; and Nashville, Tennessee.

Montgomery County, Tennessee has trunking, but it's a format that is only supported by a computer based program called LTRUNK.

Clarksville, Tennessee has trunking, but it's a digital format called Provoice which isn't supported by any of the current scanners.

Fort Campbell uses a Motorola trunking system in the UHF range.

Kentucky State Police is digital, APCO-25 in conventional mode (ie no trunking).

Tennessee DNR Wildlife Enforcement utilizes APCO-25 in conventional mode.

That's about it for the area.

All depends on what you want to listen to.

So a digital capable scanner would be a good investment for that area...:)

I would say that you would have a good chance of receiving the Kentucky State Police in that area. The signals can really travel sometimes. The use a convential APCO-25 UHF system using multi-cast.

And TN DNR of course would be interesting during fire season, and hunting season.

Thanks all on the info about digital. I guess i'll hold off longer on the Yupiteru and see when digital gets more more in this area. I could probably hear some KY stuff and the fish and game would be neat to listen to. I think that last storm and tornado tore some of the towers up on Grove Hill and keep us posted when they start putting some digital stuff up on the towers. I'll get a digital scanner at that time also.

I live in Union City and the KSP sites are very active. I listen to them on my Pro 96 and 785D and have a new 2096 on the way 2/7/05 as I said I can hear the KSP and the Tn Fish and Game on my Pro 96 while in my car with magmount antenna from Dyersburg north to Paris, Hunington, from Jackson you pick up KSP at Bradford north. So you are in a good area also there are some mid Ky sites near you so you can hear mid and west KSP.

The TACN system will start construction on their tower site in the next 1-2 months in Paris, but the site will be on hwy 79 as you leave Paris toward Paris Landing. Projected time to have the site operational is late April / early May. THP and TEMA will be the initial users of the P-25 digital trunked system.
