08/26 ~ At 09:50 MetCom alerted South Metro Firefighters to an Air Alert 3 in the rear of 7963 Warbonnet Trail. First arriving Medic 41 reported a small plane down in the field a few hundred yards northeast of the address. Crews cut a fence and off-roaded to the crash site. The pilot was found injured and trapped inside with no fire or leaking fuel present. Battalion Chief 34 assumed command, Training 32 was assigned operations, Red2, Red 3 & Tower 45 conducted the rescue operation. Extrication was completed within 15 minutes and the patient was transported by Medic 42 emergent to Littleton Hospital. The crash site was determined to be located within the City of Aurora, their officials as well as the FAA & NTSB responded to the scene. A nearby resident and life-long pilot witnessed the biplane fly over his property at 800-1,000 feet when the engine suddenly stopped. The aircraft was unable to glide and rapidly fell to the ground.
