Does anyone know what systems Cleveland Communication usually uses?
Police Commander George Balasko, the property evidence facility manager and radio system administrator, said an updated system has been on his radar for roughly the last decade.
“The current system is about roughly 12 years old and we can’t even update it,” he said.
“It’s been running continuously for that long, which in the electronics world is a fantastic return on investment.”
Safety Director Bob Coury said that in layman’s terms, Cleveland Communications will host the radio server with processing power.
“One of the additional advantages that provides us is, if there are any equipment failures with regard to that server, Cleveland Communications will have to replace, repair or whatever at their expense,” he said.
If approved, the eight-year contract with Cleveland Communications ranges from a $272,000 to $317,000 annual cost, which will be paid for out of the communication center budget.
That includes 120 portable radios and 35 mobile radios.
