I was reading in the NJ Star Ledger (Page 28, 12/15/04) an article in reference to Parsippany's radio system

"...the high cost of technology, plus outfitting all four emergency squads with radios and pagers will require the town to add another $550,000 to the $1.2 million it had bonded for the new communication system....dead spots in the hilly, 25 square mile township will be eliminated with a system of signal-boosting repeaters and in addition to emergency squads, the six fire districts, as well as all township public works, recreation, and shade tree departments will be tied into the system, along with police."

Anyone know if they're switching to a Motorola trunked system or a UHF system that will be compatible with the new Morris Co. system? I see that some of the FD & EMS have UHF frequencies licensed.

They are switching to 400Mhz. Whether it is trunked or not is anybody's guess.

There getting the FD & EMS off the low band frequencies. I would guess they'll start the change after they move in to the new HQ. A new tower is part of the project.

Where did you find this info? Is it on the net anywhere or is it on the FCC Data Base? Any help or link would be appreciated. Thanks

There are a bunch of 400MHz licenses in the FCC database. Plus, I know someone in our radio club who is an engineer for Motorola, who designs the systems.

He worked on the Morris Co. project.

Thanks,

So the idea is that the police will eventualy go to 400 Mhz also? Thats interesting, the only thing I know so far is that they went to APCO digital on one of their two 800 mhz police freqs, and might have switched them both.

The repeaters are mostly licensed to fire houses from the ULS info, the mid-atlantic site had some interesting info. But the ghist there was that the new system was just for the Fire/EMS.

Is it possible they might try and trunk the whole mess? Or just keep seperate freqs for seperate agencies?

Parsippany PD switched both of there 800 frequencies over to digitial to "make it easier to record". As far as them going on the morris county system, when they do, the cars will just be outfitted with seperate radios.

The Fire dept is getting 2 frequencies, in the 400 band. One is going to replace the current low band freq. and serve as the township wide dispatch and dept. to dept. communications. The second is supposed to be an ICS channel, where only FD officers will be able to operate on.

EMS is also going to replace the current low band system with a 400 band freq.

As far as those freq.'s being compatable with the new morris county freq. I'm not sure of, but I doubt it. I know the FD's are not even talking about how they are going to fit into the county system. They first have to find out how to pay for the new upgrade to the 400 band which the police dept. is forcing them to go to, and pay for themselves.
