Everyone seems to love beyond reason Radio Shack(!)'s old HTX-202 handy talkie; I'm about to buy a pair myself. You'll probably need to rebuild the battery pack, but that's not really expensive these days... or you can use Icom packs on them, I gather. They had a -404, as well; these units are the flower of 1995 technology. :)

My congratulations too!
Now, before you get out of the 'swing' of it, get that general so you can use all the bands, not just VHF/UHF. You'll be glad you did later.

Thanks everyone.

What are your interests, 2 meter/440 bands. Are you going to get a scanner. CONGRATS on passing the test. Welcome to the hobby.

To answer your question my interest is mainly 2 meter. I am looking to join the local skywarn and thats what they mainly use. I have been scanning for a while. I just but bought a PRO-163 back in September.

Congrats and welcome to amateur radio. One word of advice, if you buy a used 2 meter rig, first check out the prices on the new ones. I see people on ebay buying used 2 meter gear all the time for the same price they could get a brand new covered by warranty new rig.

I have one of the 404's, still in the box. I never used it but to try it out. I bought one when they were on close out.

rngr2000 Welcome to the one of the best hobbies in the world. All you have to do now is convince your wife you need to spend tons of money of radios. :)
If you not married, then that's even better
