It is with great sadness that I inform CARMA members (and others) of the passing of John Arendt, 79, of Oswego, IL on January 22, 2022. John was one of the original founders of RCMA (Radio Communications Monitoring Association) Chicago Chapter, which was renamed The Chicago Area Radio Monitoring Association, or CARMA many years ago.
Some of the early CARMA meetings were held in John's basement in Oswego. Many of us gathered for presentations, our traditional round-table discussions, and of course lunch. Someone would run out to the local broasted chicken take-out restaurant and bring back plenty of broasted chicken and all the sides.
John was well-known for his detailed monitoring guide for the Illinois State Police, called "Code 101."
He is survived by many friends and family members.
