Good day!

I will be passing thru KS on I-70 from West to East in the first week of Sept and then later in the third week carrying my PRO-96.

I would like to monitor the KS Highway Patrol. The question, can anyone suggest the best control freqs that will avoid a lot of the unnecessary town and city police freqs and other side traffic? The KS RR database seems to have a lot of freqs that I really wouldn't need.

I appreciate the trouble.

The KS system is based around a shared pool of conventional frequencies. Their shared use is separated by distance and DCS code only.

If you put the first list in under KHP you will hear most everything. You will hear vey little local traffic as they seem to not like the locals using their frequencies.

KS 800---KHP---------KDOT------EMS--------FUTURE---FUTURE
Red------866.6875---866.1000-867.9125---867.1125--867.4500
Blue-----868.6750---868.1750-867.1625---866.3000--867.5500
Brown---868.9250---868.5875-866.125----867.2375--867.6375

Around Salina they are used like a private frequency by local troopers. I have never heard and EMS traffic on these frequency.

hi rick the speadsheet was from don gruver, he compiled most of the data
from his sources and from mine and others. it has not been updated in a couple of yrs but not much has changed. except in the major metro areas where joco fire has made some changes and over in topeka where some trunked changes have been made. the sheet is probibly one of the best places to get all of the states info in one spot.

i would welcome changes/additions if anyone has stuff to add or to say that no longer exists.

and true the EMS 800 channels appear to be used as a chit chat ch for troopers in most areas of the state. i have heard the locals use em too if the area was 800 aready. but have not heard any use where the primary was VHF or UHF.
