• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi guys,

First post and I am pleading for assistance, sad I know.

I have purchased some NX-220E's as part of some pit to car radio sets. I have the KPG-141D v4.7 software and have managed to connect with the radios in order to program to my frequency. Unfortunately I have found the radios to be read and write passworded so I cannot reprogram.

Now, I have sent an email to the seller in the hope that they may be able to help me out, however, the race team I purchased them from didn't personally do their frequency allocation or programming (this was all organised as part of the series they raced in) so I doubt they will be able to help me directly and for the same reason as they don't have the password currently I am not sure if whoever did the radio programming will be too forthcoming.

Is there any way around this. I have heard you can get some engineering serial in order to do a password reset. Does anyone have access to this for these radios or know of any other way I may be able to get around this in order to use these radios. The radios are on the same frequency already however it is illegal to transmit randomly on these bands where I live. I have done the right thing and purchased a frequency allocation however at this stage cannot program the radios to use this.

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

James.

There is a "read" password setting and a "read/write" password setting. Before you go much farther, have you simply tried pushing a new file into the radio?

If that didn't work, then you have a couple of options:
1. You can try and get the radio unlocked by the original owner. Good luck with that part.
2. You can send/take the radios to a Kenwood shop and they may have the engineering serial number for the KPG software that they can use to bypass the password. You may have to provide some form of proof of ownership (or not). It won't be free. Bench rates are running around $85usd/hr in my area.
3. You can try to find the engineering serial number for the KPG software online. I know it's out there for some of the other versions of KPG. However, you may need to roll your KPG software back to an older version, and this could be problematic if the radios have really new firmware. Kenwood has been taking this function out of the newer releases since the engineering serial number was leaked.

Thanks for the response. They appear to have an overwrite password also.

1. Contacted them, they seem to be claiming they used to program them inhouse and was no password, obviously mistaken. The guy who sold them isn't the radio tech bloke so he probably doesn't know exactly what hes talking about. Still waiting further response down this avenue.
2. This one is tricky. These are a Euro region radio, I am in Australia, I'd strongly suggest AU dealers won't touch them so I'd have to find somewhere in europe to send them back to. I have a company receipt from the company I bought them from, I am sure they'd have the original receipt for the units somewhere, they are a number of years old though. At this stage, don't care if its not free, just need to get it sorted so I can use them legally.
3.Sort of tried this option, went hunting last night for a number of hours. Found an old version of software and what was mentioned to be a engineers serial. Loaded it up, had the password reset in menu, didn't seem to want to work though, cant remember what it was saying but I am thinking maybe it was a US engineers serial so won't work with the E radios.

I'll keep trying some options, worst case is I need to buy new radios. This will be frustrating as I bought two sets, one for a mate, so its not just my loss... If I buy new radios I'll probably get the NX320 (UHF) as then I can use CB band channels also for general usage. However, I've already purchased a VHF bandwidth allocation.

Ugghh..

Totenkopf - as a new member, I don't seem to be able to PM or email you.

Can you contact me via PM or email?

I might be able to point you at someone who might be able to help (...but it's along shot).

In the time it took you to write and submit this post you could have put that energy toward locating the key you need.
It REALLY isn't that difficult and it certainly isn't hidden...

I guess you meant "Thanks for waSting my time."

Sorry you feel that way.

The information is out there. I have it, but due to my job, employer, relationship with Kenwood, I'm not going to post it here in the wide open. That sort of stuff would risk wrecking a long relationship with people in Kenwood that I really rely on to do my job.
And, as posted, those sorts of posts are not allowed. That was in the agreement you clicked on when you created your account.

I was thinking of PM'ing it to you, but I've suddenly lost the desire to put that much effort into this. Maybe someone else feels like doing it.

It's REALLY easy to find online. KPG-141DN Engineering key. Cut and past that into your browser and let it find it for you.

While you may think I'm "wasting your time", I've honestly done everything I can do for you, short of coming to your home and doing the Google search for you.

Not sure what else you were expecting. If doing a simple google search is too much, you might want to rethink this whole thing.
