Hello,
It's been over 1 year now that Staten Island lost it's Patrol Boro channel.
It used to be on 482.4125 Mhz but during Hurricane Sandy that frequency was "temporarily" taken over by
the 120 th pct. Well a year later the 120 is still there.
Does anyone know if the PBSI channel got a new home and what freq. it is
or is Staten Island too unimportant of borough to have such a channel like all 4 other boroughs have.

Perhaps because one of the two got moved to 484.0875 or 484.8375?

The only reference I can find for these frequencies being used in Staten Island is from 2008. They're not listed in any of the current databases.

Currently there is no channel free for the boro repeated tactical communications. Units either have to use the low power point-to-point channels (Tac A - Tac E) or call each other on the phone.

PBSI

It's just unbelievable that only 1 precinct (120 th) would occupy a frequency all to themselves.
Half the precincts could use 482.5875, and the other half could use 482.8875 leaving 482.4125 for Patrol Boro.
Honestly who's making decisions ? anyone know what they are doing ?

The PB channels are often temporarily used for precinct dispatch when there's a problem, although in this case, temporary has lasted a long time. I'm told it's not a permanent change, and has to do with some infrastructure that was damaged for the usual zone.

Is there a reason this bothers you? Do you have some SI borough-wide operation that you're not able to conduct until the channel is available?

Splitting the North and South channels is not that cut & dry. Because they are setup as a multicast, they both share a common input frequency. To split them requires giving the south channel it's own input frequency (currently used as a low power tac channel) and setting up the receive sites for the additional channel and then reprogramming department radios for the new setup.

The 121 was added to the 122/123 channel because the PBSI repeater has some known dead zones in that command. Most notably Richmond Hill Rd near the golf course. We will have to wait and see what the radio techs decide to do with the radio system in Staten Island. For now "call my cell" is the name of the game.
