Paul,

Any chance that you might add the pay-per-feature options that had been contemplated? If this is pursued, I very much hope that a "key-safe mode" would be included. I remain exceedingly pleased with my fleet of 396's/996's and have given quite a few as gifts to people who are not fully tech savvy, but they end up inadvertently knocking settings out of whack by pressing the wrong buttons.

By the way, I just picked up a 396XT a day ago - superb radio!! You've hit a real home run with this radio!

I ask the same questions a few months back. Members of RR have answered no, because of the new BCD396XT that just had been release. Now we have to sit and wait until Uniden Paul Ortiz (Upman) decide if any pay-per-feature will be release in the future as state in the Checksum update for the BCD396XT. I like the new radio but cannot afford to buy one right now just had a pay cut in my job.

It's a great idea, but I have a hunch it's not going to happen now that the flagship models have all been upgraded to "X" series.

It is a very hard business model to manage in the consumer market.

Believe UpMan had said no pay features will be implimented on the 396T
The pay per use feature wasnt implimented, and worked out only to be a test

who knows what the future holds.

I think it was a dangling carrot. Uniden has a history of adding features to current models for more $$$. No reflection on Paul as he was not there back then. Kudos to Uniden for the very first Trunk Tracker, the "235". But after a lot of people bought them, if you wanted to trunk more than one bank at a time, or scan and trunk, you had to go out and buy the new and improved 235, the 245. Then there was the 250/296, and now the 396T/396XT. Stay tuned for what happens in the future. Again, NO reflection on Paul, as I'm pretty sure that he was not there when the 235 was released. Sure, I really like the 396T, and would love to have a 396XT, but I think I'll sit on the sidelines and watch this time.

I would like to hear from Upman in this matter being asked. But I believe his answer will be the following. I hope he will answer with a yes or no if there going to be any pay-by-feature update in the future I mean like 6 months to 2 years not right now.

By policy, I cannot participate in discussions like this thread. I do read them, however, and generally find that there are some great ideas presented (well, the toaster idea sucked, but...).

I can do nothing to imply that Uniden will take actions we have not publically committed to doing.

I don't think there will be any features added to the 396T & 996T since they have 2 new models 396XT & soon 996xt. Which I think I will sit on the sidelines with Dewy. I can not afford to keep buying scanners everytime one comes out. I have only had my 996 for a year not even broke in yet.
