Radio Shack, Wal-Mart, Staples, Office Depot, eBay.... assuming that your PC has a 9 pin serial com port on it.

I wouldnt think all those stores have a 250D/296D serial cable (the end on the scanner side is the different side)

If it was a base unit 785D 796D a standard 9pin would work but the handhelds are tricky to find

its a pretty hard to find cable. part # RC250D (least from usascan)

Would the USB-1 cable that Uniden sells work for this application? If not maybe there is a cable listed on ebay.

Check out this link. I'm not sure if the serial cable would work but it looks similiar.

No, the problem is that the radio connector end of the cable is different between the 250/296 and the newer DMA portables. It seems that Uniden has discontinued the older cable.
