PCR100 / PCR1000 and Optoelectronics Scout

I know this isn't exactly recent high tech but I was looking at using an Optoelectronics Scout (not Digital model) to reaction tune a PCR100 I have lying around. The PCR100 shuts down after 20-30 seconds of no serial activity and the Scout doesn't provide a signal to do so.

Some PCR owners reported tying the DTR-RTS lines together at the PCR1000 serial connector:

Has anyone successfully interfaced the non-digital Scout to either the PCR100 or 1000 using this trick?
