What would be a good but moderatly priced handheld for listening to peel regional police in Ontario.Was looking at some units on the radio World website.

Johndh, any scanner capable of trunktracking a Motorola Type II system should do. You might want to consider the BC246T.

Peel Police Service does have some digital but it's usually encrypted. The other 90% of the regular talkgroups are just plain analog.
