Hi all,

I had an e-mail from a handicaped ham operator in Pendleton county Wv, who cannot hear the Wv. state police any longer, I have copied a part of his e-mail to me, I cannot find the answer to his question in the database, can anyone help?

I will pass any information you can provide to him.

thanks,
wmbio

"42.10 is no longer used in Pendleton County, the Elkins remote base seems to use 42.06 for our area but not very often. So I wonder if they may have gone to a VHF-UHF trunking system; or maybe even Cell Phones?"

I still show 42.060 / 45.780 active for Troop 3 last time I was through that area back in February. Your friend should check the local dispatch law enforcement channels; state police are now commonly dispatched by the county dispatchers. [I don't have any info on Pendleton County, so I'm no help there. The county terminated its license on 37.280 and now has one on 39.160. I'd check there. If he has anything, I'd appreciate an update. Thanks!]

The 70 MHz freq is a link. SP uses midband (and UHF) to link remote bases back to dispatch points. Usually, the freq in the low split (72 MHz) is from the remote base back to HQ, and the high split freq (75 MHz) is from HQ out to the hilltop. If you listen on the remote->HQ side, you can hear everything that HQ can hear (and since SP patrol freqs are all half duplex [i.e., no repeaters], w/o that help, listening to SP can be a challenge).

You wouldn't happen to have a list of all the remotes, would you? The database is only showing one in the 70 mhz range.

Also, has anyone figured out SP in Pendleton? Are they also using the County's frequency?

SP freqs there are still unknown.

I do not have any of the 70mhz links but I know they are there. Try a search between 72.000 and 74.000 mhz, use 5 khz or 6.25 khz spacing.

They'll be between 72.020 and 72.980 MHz and between 75.420 and 75.980 MHz on even 20 KHz steps (e.g., 72.020, 72.040, etc.). Here are the ones I currently show in use around the state:

72.360 (Bowden)
72.400 (Elkins)
72.880
72.920
72.940
72.960

75.860 (Elkins)
75.880 (Elkins)
75.900 (Elkins)
75.920
75.960
75.980 (Elkins)

Other services (like DOH) use this band here, too. Finally, try 453.675; that's another link in Elkins that I know is active.
