Hello Pennsylvania from Ohio

I am going to be making a road trip here in a few weeks from Ohio to Hershey Pennsylvania. I have an SDS 200 mounted in my truck and an SDS 100 and BC436 for in the hotel and out in the field. My planed route is bringing me Interstate 70 through Ohio and West Virginia. Then it looks like Interstate 85 through Pennsylvania. Can someone tell me what Counties I should program from the West Virginia-Pennsylvania boarder all the way to Hershey?

Thanks Dan KC8PAE

Pick up a GPS for your SDS200, it'll pull up applicable systems from the full database loaded onto your SDS200's SD Card based on your current GPS coordinates throughout the road trip. With that said, PSP (state police) are fully encrypted so you won't be able to hear them. Consult the RRDB for all other areas you'll traverse through

I guessing you mean 70 to 76 as since that’s the most direct route from the Cincinnati area to Hershey. First You’ll hit Ohio County West Virgina Wheeling area. I work in Wheeling and I would listen to wheeling and Ohio county, WVSP isn’t really on that section of 70 ever since the SO and City have decent coverage of it

For PA as stated above no need to mess with PSP or the state system as not many counties use the state system and PSP is full time encrypted

The counties you will run through are
Washington (Zone 1, and Zone 3)
Westmoreland
Somerset
Bedford
Fulton
Franklin
Cumberland and
Dauphin

Hershey is in Dauphin but on the border of Lebanon

if you are staying on the interstate I would say don’t worry about local PD they are NEVER on the interstate as PSP has jurisdiction over all interstates. I know for Washington county local PDs are not even notified when there FDs will go up on the interstate, unless PSP is busy (Not Common).

When in Dauphin County my primary interests will be Fire , EMS and Air medical flight. I see fire is in the clear and most EMS is encrypted. Will I be fine just entering the Simulcast site or do I need to add all of the sites? Anyone know what frequency or Frequencies to monitor in that area for Air Medical flight?

I know LifeLion and WellFlight would be active in south central PA. Not sure what else might be.

I use only Dauphin simulcast site for SCIN in Dauphin Co. You may also be interested in Hershey Entertainment & Resorts if you will be at Hersheypark.

The PTC VHF system is on its last legs I've noticed that signal strength has been way down lately like sites have been shut down (and I live right along the turnpike) and several times there have been hung repeaters tying up the channel for several minutes after someone unkeys.
The simplex channel used by the Turnpike's maintenance crews might still be active.
More activity typically when it's the season to plow though.
