• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,

Has anyone programmed PA-StarNet into their Unication G5 successfully. I have messed around with it and had placed PEMA, PennDot, Warren County FD/EMS, DCNR and Penelec TG into the device. I have great connection based on my current location from the tower site, (Martinsburg 700 AG (BLAI02). The site is strictly 700mhz control channels. I have great connection and signal, but have not heard anything at all. Anyone have any suggestions??

The 700 MHz sites only carry PSP Air-to-Ground traffic, almost all of which is encrypted. Unencrypted traffic for other agencies besides PSP are carried on VHF sites (or 800 in some locations). Oh and it's extremely unlikely that you're going to hear any Warren County traffic all the way down in Blair County.

If you are on the Martinsburg site, that is Blair County. Doubtful anything from Warren County is affiliated to that tower since it is 4 counties north of that site. Talkgroups will only be heard on towers that have radios in that talkgroup affiliated to that tower. Pema probably doesn't have a ton of radio traffic.

My apologies, I was under the assumption that the system was interconnected and could be heard across the state, similar to the ICCORS system that is in place for the western half of the state. I can be sitting in Cambria county and listen to an incident in Armstrong county.

STARNet is one system, however allowing all talkgroups to be carried on every site would be an extreme waste of channel resources, and so that's not how it works. Talkgroups are only carried on the sites where they are actually needed by affiliated subscribers.

Originally when icorrs was added to additional counties traffic was carried on all sites. However now that it has been built out traffic does NOT traverse all the sites. Example lots of Armstrong traffic does not come from Westmoreland east to the west towers or Fayette. Unless a radio affiliates on a channel in those towers area.

Primarily due to Armstrong border stations between Armstrong and Indiana Co are affiliating and using an Indiana Co tower. Most likely where you are receiving ICORRS from. As n3obl said, if a radio is not affiliated on a talkgroup at a certain tower, the talkgroup is not carried there.

A lot of Fayette County traffic stays on Fayette towers only. Same with the other counties. However, a lot of Fayette County traffic hits Westmoreland East, Westmoreland West, and Somerset as well.
