Peoria Co Fire - Mabas Boxes

when Mutual Aid is required at a fire in Peoria County, they will use a common channel.
When they announce the FG Color as: xxxxx, I cannot find the COLOR referenced.
I have checked MABAS - Starcom ( 1676-4838) & MABAS - Peoria Co Conventional (154.265-154.302)
No where is a color referenced. Can anyone tell me what freq the FG colors are referenced on ?

it used to be listed on Peoria Co ETSB Net ( 251 thru 257 ). they aren't still using the old .NET are they ???

Are you talking about THESE color firegrounds that are Statewide? https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?aid=1861
they're listed under common/shared stuff in the IL database here on Radio Reference. They still use local firegrounds red through green and orange on VHF here in the northern suburbs. Very localized
reception of course ... like right on site within a 1/4 mile ... "maybe"

tonight there was a fire in Princeville and the went to Fire Ground Color: AMBER
Amber is not listed on those frequencies

Just joking here. Honest. Why the odd color names? I would think that a basic color code .... red, yellow, blue etc would be easier for a firefighter to understand in a stressful situation. Not really sure what a couple of those are. Yes it is great info.

I would surmise that they chose these since there are already most of those primary colors already in use. FG Red for example is 153.830...

This way they can differentiate between the VHF fireground channels (Red, White, Blue, Etc.) and the channels in the trunked system (Amber, Bronze etc.)

OK. Thanks for that. Since I live in MO I almost never hear the MABAS channels in operation. Did not know there was a VHF and a StarCom set of freqs. There also appears to be other interoperability frequencies both VHF and UHF. No need to be confused. And then I looked at some of the apparatus around the state. Holy ****. That is a lot of trucks and stuff and must have cost a pretty penny.

More questions. I just saw a section on the RR website for MABAS on StarCom. There was a listing of around 28 TG's that cover a wide variety of situations. Is that the primary state of IL TG's for MABAS ops? And can/do each county have their own set of TG's etc. Either VHF or Digital on StarCom. Sounds like MABAS alone can take up a lot of space on your scanner.

The 1600 and 4800 series are statewide and can be used by any MABAS member or at any MABAS incident. The others are provided for MABAS Division 15 (Grundy County) and arrangements are likely that these only would work on the sites in that area.

Thanks again. And another question. I can hear one of two 'response' channels on StarCom that is supposed to be on St Clair Co only site. This is for St Clair Co fire units. This evening I heard traffic on the 'east' response channel. Stated, smoke showing. All units switch to the red channel. Since this is a digital system could they be switching to the VHF MABAS red channel? Sorry if I am sounding dumb. Just confused.

If they said the Red channel then it is likely 153.830 on VHF. There might be a companion channel on SC21 but I have not seen it.

PS: MABAS-IL is the national poster child for organized, universal fire mutual aid, but the above frequencies and squelch codes only apply to Illinois and MABAS members in parts of surrounding states.

Intended for short-range tactical, the color channels are limited to 10 watts and no base stations to prevent distant transmitters from walking on emergency traffic.

Other states may use the same frequencies with different squelch codes, names and uses. For example, FG White with a 74.4 CTCSS in Illinois is also Missouri Statewide Fire Mutual Aid in carrier squelch, VFIRE21 with a 156.7, and TXFIRE1 with a 127.3.
