location......just North of PEORIA
system ..... STARCOM 21 - PROJECT 25
site ........... PEORIA COUNTY Towers

hearing far away stations as if they were only 5-10 miles away

when one of their cars are using the Peoria County Tower,
are all Transmissions from their "HOME" sites, rebroadcasted on the Peoria County Tower.

I don't understand why I am hearing all of these far away counties
Sangamon, McLean, LaSalle, Lee, Knox, Fulton, Livingston on a regular basis.
I also hear it on the Metemora & Congerville sites.

Yes. It is called affiliation. If a unit is outside their home area the tower they are near (affiliated with) will broadcast their local traffic. This is what allows them to use their radios outside their home area, and we scanner listeners get to hear it as well.

thanks for your reply, W8RMH.

wouldn't it be nice to have an antenna with that good of "EARS" ?
but being realistic, I knew that wasn't the case.
Have a great day

For the Peoria SC21 site, I'm fairly certain they load the site down with some traffic from outside the area intentionally. In the past when I've decoded the CC data from this site, I would see activity from Sangamon County even though no radios were affiliated with those talkgroups.

same using Peoria County Tower. Heavy hits from Sangamon County. Makes no sense to me. Will occasionally pull in something form Cook County. All of the ISP Districts log in eventually. i dont understand what is going on or how it works.
