* The 399-foot transport truck carrying a 380 ton low-level radioactive steam generator from the San Onofre nuclear power plant to Utah

* A nuclear steam generator is slowly making its way across North County on a top-secret route from San Onofre to Utah, where it will be disposed of.

* Haul a lightly contaminated 750,000-pound piece of the plant's old steam generator

* The generator piece is painted with a thick coat of blue to prevent pieces of steel from chipping or flaking off.

* Three semi-trucks will haul the carriage—one in front and two in the back—at 15 mph. The journey to the dump site in Utah is expected to take three weeks.

* Fortunately, with 192 tires and 48 axles, the Perkins trailer is up to the task.

* Officials say that the radiation levels are small enough that standing next to it for an hour would be less exposure than getting dental x-rays.

This is the first trip.
You will have 3 other chances to catch radio traffic another time. :p

Possible Temecula & Murrieta Route:
_______________________________________________________________________
Radioactive waste is scheduled to be trucked past Murrieta in the near future.
The waste -- four steam generators -- will come from the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station on Interstate 15,
exit in Temecula and take back roads to avoid bridges incapable of holding its weight.
The trucks will then get back on I-15 going north.

The vehicles will exit on Temecula Parkway and head east, turn north on Margarita Road and then head east on Winchester Road, according to the Californian.
That would take the trailer and parts right through Murrieta, to I-15 at Murrieta Hot Springs Road.

______________________________________________________________________
The permits show the shipments ---- four steam generators recently removed from the plant ----
will exit I-15 at Temecula Parkway and head east, before turning north on Margarita Road,
then east on Winchester Road, following that road out of town.

The permit issued by Temecula states that it will be necessary to temporarily remove a traffic signal arm at I-15 and Temecula Parkway so that the shipments can pass without making contact.

There was a chp escort this A.M nb 15 headed toward Baker, I was in Baker looking south toward zzzzzx rd., one BIG traffic backup north bound, I left to get a head of it, never did hear any cb chatter, not even sure if that was it, on My way back to Baker never saw any thing, that would need an escort, if was the Prkins load I'm think that they went north on 127 out of Baker up to US 95, then will come back south on 95, Thats all realitive flat, No climbing up Baker Grade 4000 ft, then decending Mountain pass with 10 miles of 6% grade, by the way this was 0330, jc

It will be passing within 3 miles of my home. I'm driving taxi and am temporarily on the "bar closing shift." I will take my scanner with me and see if I hear them on the frequencies listed. Thanks!

Today's Inyo Register reports that the truck, et al, will stop and start in Bishop on Thursday. I wonder if they are going to continue over Conway Summit, at 8140 feet, the highest point on U.S. 395 or take U.S. 6 out of Bishop into Nevada. As slow as the truck is going on the flat portions of the trip, the climb up Conway summit could be very slow. We could probably put together a "walk on your hands" team and beat it to the top!

‘Super load’ en route to Inyo
The loads are reportedly the heaviest in California history.

The load will be traveling through the area starting tomorrow. Beginning Tuesday night, the truck will travel in the evening from Ridgecrest to Olancha. The truck will travel from Olancha to Bishop on Wednesday evening, arriving in Bishop early Thursday morning. The truck will stay a day parked in front of the Ford dealership on U.S. 6. The load will then begin moving during daylight hours on Friday from Bishop to the Nevada state line.
