Peru is a notoriously difficult country to get on HF broadcast - now it may be a touch easier

As reported in several places (World of Radio, etc.) R Tarma has a new 1.4 kw transmitter that they are using, and folks are beginning to report them (when those darn CODAR swishes don't get in the way). Programming is mostly Spanish, but don't be surprised to hear Quechua or other Andean languages too.

Beware the nearby Congonhas from Brazil - they are exclusively in Portuguese and it's quite easy to tell the difference.. Local sunset is at 2310, sunrise around 1028 (times in UT, of course). Actual measured frequency is 4775.04 Mike

Nice to know another station is on HF from that region. The only one I used to hear in recent memory (earlier in the decade) was the one on 5910, Radio Alcaravan, from Colombia. Haven't heard it in ages, though.

This is terrific news. I had heard that the Peruvian Ministerio de Transporte y Communicaciones was opposed to new SW outlets, but I hope that was wrong. As the OP noted, a lot of differing cultures are present in Tarma, itself in Sierra, but close by is the "eyebrow of the jungle" Monta~na region--with a neighboring area having been colonized by Austrians many generations back. I noticed that Radio Tarma has a website, and some photos of the town. As Mike said, you could hear anything from Huaynos to Cumbias and a lot other folk genres from a place in the central Sierra of Peru.
