• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am a lineman for the county.
Actually No, you can't.

Wow, I guess I have been doing a good job ignoring him. While I may not agree with him, I'd not wish cancer on anyone.

None the less, I know the stereo FM on CB was a joke, as was the unintelligible ranting.

Still FM CB Stereo is pretty funny. Will be interesting to see where FM CB goes, if anywhere. Nice to see that we'll have some options. Hopefully new FM capable radios will include those wonderful "Privacy Codes".

The cheap bastiges let the Sat radio subscription in the work truck expire so my listening choices were limited.

Manufactures may be there closer than you think!
President Electronics has had a 10/12 with modification to CB band that has FM with CTCSS/DPL!

LINCOLN II + - Ham Radio - CB Radio / Ham Radio - President Electronics

So there is a template for them work with, A tweak here a change there of a few minor parts to meet the new FCC standards and there you have it a FM CB etc.
would not be surprised if these units are already made just awaiting FCC type acceptance stickers. Just in time for “Black Friday” and “Holidays”

The majority of channels are currently unused. Not really sure what adding 40 more would do.

The few times in the last year 11 meters opened up, about all 40 were loaded. 38 LSB becomes s gigantic pileup from hell, every time you try to change frequency to talk to someone and get out of the business, you just run into more traffic and interference.

Freebanding is unforgivable in my book. But when the solar activity is right, I can understand why some have been tempted by the dark side.

Friends of mine experimented last night with FM. They talked on 10m and could hear each other ok but when trying on 11m some could not hear at all, some could not understand the transmission. They were all using ham gear modified to transmit on 11m. My rig is a McKinley so I had to hear it from them after they came back to SSB.

That doesn't make sense, unfortunately. Either the radios, antennas, or both weren't working properly. FM is FM is FM. Doesn't make an ounce of difference what band it is on.

Guess I'll dig the old Magnum 257HP out of the closet and set it to FM. I need to find someone to change out the gawdawful blue LEDs in the front panel, though.

Most likely this is to late to do this, but I’ll throw it out there For your consideration. With 11 meter (27Mhz) FM CB coming to your neighborhood (officially) real soon. As was done in the late 70 with the advent of SSB on the band. With Ch’s. 16 and later 36 - 40 allocated by a unofficial gentle persons agreement to SSB mode which somewhat still stands today.
Allocate some current CB channels to FM mode only. Just a suggestion ( Ch 25, 27, 29, 30, 31 & 33)

Why not 26, 28 & 32?

Why not 26, 28 & 32?

28 especially is a big boi station, and a great place to get skip action some days, or a place to get trampled on when conditions get really hot.

Running 5 watts FM on 28 is like playing in the middle of the interstate. The traffic will just run you over.

Why not? Again I threw this out there as an idea. If it’s even possible now of days to get some kind of consensus of setting aside a few of the current CB channels, what ever the actual channel numbers to be selected for FM mode use.
🤷🏻‍♂️❓😎

I have a II+ and it is a decent radio for the money but I don't remember there being a deviation setting in the menu so who knows if it will actually be usable to "legal" radios. It can get in to 10m repeaters fine so my bet is its more then 2. I guess I could always check it if anyone cares.

Where their antennas actually resonant down on 11?

Yes but was thinking when they switched bands one guy doesn't know radios a lot so maybe his rig switched to narrow FM or who knows. Thanks.
