If you check the database, you'll find that PG county still uses a 490 mhz conventional system; they do have 2 small EDACS systems, but they're not used for typical PD or fire dispatch.

There's been many rumors about PG moving to 800 or reallocating the freqs listed for their EDACS system, but nothing has ever panned out. Money problems no doubt. They're something of a holdout - with Montgomery, DC and Howard all 800 digital now, they're going to have to do something sometime, like it or not.

To reiterate what Mike said they use the 490Mhz system for some reason PG had a thing against Motorola & all they had was GE but you are now starting to see alot more Motorola come in the Picture. Also Mike don't forget about Anne Arundal they are 800Mhz Digital as well.


Also Rumor was that PG was going to do it like DC, Fire on 800 Mhz & Police on the UHF but we all know that goes.

Yep, though you see tgs in the 32000 range that are digital ... most of their other comms are all analog.

Back to PG for a moment; it would make sense for them to take their existing 490 mhz system and change it from a conventional system to a trunk, not unlike what DC did with their police freqs (as was noted earlier). But we all know that common sense and government don't necessarily mix together too well :wink:

We'll all just have to wait and see what PG does. They will have to make a decision one day, like Motorola or not.

Police Identifiers

Does anyone know how the pgpd cars are identified over the radio now that they have switched to the CSA's? I understood when they worked on a conventional beat system, but I have no clue which patrol cars are which on the new CSA system.
