Well it is that time of year again. Post your Pheasant Hunting stories hear.

So far no problems in Salina/Saline County.

Wonder how long that will last.

Accidents can happen - KAKE TV

Nov. 12-Pheasant season officially gets underway this weekend.

Tens of thousands of hunters flock to Kansas and already a serious accident as they go gunning for game.

With so many hunters, accidents can happen.

Already one man is critically shot on this first day of pheasant season.

In Southwest Sedgwick County a 51-year-old man was shot, hit several times in the face chest and abdomen with birdshot pellets.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he underwent surgery.

Add Deer Hunting to the list.

Farmers Should Be Weary Of Illegal Hunting
WIBW Kevin MacDonald

It's hunting season in Kansas.

"So people will try and do things to try and make easy money," Rob Ladner, Kansas Dept. of Wildlife and Parks Regional Supervisor, said.

Some hunters will poach to try and catch that trophy rack -- even at the risk of landowners.

"These people are armed, you do not know whether or not they've been drinking or not, and if they're doing something illegal it should give you some indication that they may want to hurt you," Ladner said.

That is -- if you get in their way.

"Deer are worth money, racks are worth money, and so there is a dollar value that these people are after," Ladner said.

Wanting to defend your rights and property is natural -- but Kansas Wildlife and Parks says it's better to do it from a distance.

"People that will trespass on purpose typically and especially if they're going to do something as flagrant as poach a deer out of season without the proper permits is someone that probably doesn't care about that landowner's rights," Ladner said.

Wildlife and Parks advise landowners to call law enforcement and give a description of the violators -- because they can punish illegal hunting on the spot.

"Get as much information as you can but do not confront them individually on your own," Ladner said.

Wildlife and Parks estimate some deer racks can be worth up to $20,000 which is why some hunters will do anything to cash in.

Clay County Man Stabbed
WIBW

A rural Clay County man is in critical condition at a Wichita hospital today after a stabbing Sunday night.

Deputies say 66-year-old Marvin Macy was attacked when confronting poachers on his property. He was stabbed repeatedly, and then walked a quarter-mile to a truck which he drove to his home a mile away.

Authorities are looking for three men who fled in Macy's vehicle.

A plastic surgeon worked six hours to reconstruct Macy's face, nose and bowel. Doctors at Wesley Medical Center are concerned about infection because the knife used in the attack was the same one that removed the head of a deer found near the scene of the stabbing.

At least two people were injured in hunting mishaps in north-central Kansas during the opening weekend of hunting season, according to officials with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.

John R. Johnson, 76, McPherson, was hurt about 10:30 a.m. Saturday when he was struck by pellets from a shotgun blast, according to Jerry Almquist, natural resource officer for the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.

Almquist said that Johnson was among a group of hunters walking through a field about three miles west of Langley, in the southeast corner of Ellsworth County.
