Why would Philadelphia FD encrypt their fire talkgroups ? Almost all the PD talkgroups are in the clear so can someone fill me in why fire is encrypted?
If you really wanted an answer to this question, you should ask the Philadelphia Fire Commissioner. All you'll get here are disgruntled opinions. I am no fan nor proponent for encryption, but I don't feel it is the private citizens business to tell city/county/state officials how to conduct their operations.
Now all the hiding something, wasting tax-payer money and conspiracy folks can have a stab at it...
The 4 PFD dispatch talkgroups are not encrypted (North Fire, North Medic, South Fire, South Medic). However, the 6 Fire Tac talkgroups (used for fireground operations) and special unit talkgrous are strapped encrypted.
