I would like to update the news media listings under the Philadelphia section of the database.

At this time, I only really hear radio traffic on these frequencies for the news stations:

135.975 - news helo scene coordination

CBS 3
450.550/455.550 (107.2) - Chopper 3 Ch. 1 primary
450.1875 (107.2) - Chopper 3 secondary

ABC 6
455.2375 (156.7) - Chopper 6 primary (old; nothing heard in several months)
455.0875 (156.7) - Chopper 6 secondary
455.725/450.725 (156.7) - Chopper 6 primary (new; reverse repeater setup)

NBC 10
455.050 (114.8) - Chopper 10 primary
455.150 (114.8) - Chopper 10 secondary

FOX 29
450.2875/455.2875 (151.4) - SkyFOX and ground units primary

There are a ton of frequencies listed on the database page, but unless folks are hearing traffic to confirm the stuff is still used, I think the list needs to be pared down.

Let me know. I'll make updates in a while.

I think your right Ben, 3, 6, 10 seem to only use there radio systems for coordinating with the choppers. I guess the reporters use nextel/cell and digital pagers. Fox still uses the radio system for the reporters and chopper but I think alot of there info goes over pagers too.

I think that list was compiled from websites, books and FCC data. I have monitored most of those freqs over the years and never really heard anything except for some occassional traffic reporting.

I posted a pile of freq's contributed a few months back hoping that some people would confirm or deny the use of them as I usually don't listen.

I left out almost as many as made it in based on my own knowledge.

Thanks for the updates Ben....I now have significantly less frequencies!

P.S> Some of the frequencies for NBC 10 that are listed seem to be microphone freqs or something. Any ideas?

Corrections to DB

Hi Ben,
I just noticed that 135.975 is listed as 135.7500 in the DB and both air freqs are listed as FM.

Thanks!!

I didn't make that entry. I don't know if that 135.750 freq is valid. When I get to cleaning up the list, I'll probably wipe it unless someone comes forward to claim it is in use. I always figured is was a typo.

I'll try to get to this stuff over the weekend.

Ben...YOU DA MAN!! Thanks for your help and keep up the GREAT work on the database. It is greatly appreciated!!

Hey, it's a team effort. Before I came on board recently, Dave was pretty much a one man show maintaining the eastern portion of PA.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed...without user input, we're dead in the water.

Just took a look at the updated listings and you guys deleted some that are still in use. Metro Networks still uses 450.850 (PL I forget) for traffic reporting. Also Smart Route's 451.325 frequency is still in use but I'm not sure what for. It uses a DPL which I will share the next time I have activity on this frequency. The rest of the deleted ones I haven't really heard anything on.

Please re submit them with all the missing info, and one of us will get them back on there.

Fox 29 uses the one frequency for air and ground units. When my scanner picks up an open squelch on it, I can often hear producers giving crews directions and talk about upcoming interviews. Fox 29 seems to be the only station in Philadelphia that still uses radios for communications. Most everyone else uses cell phones and Nextel for communications. Everyone does communicate with their choppers via radio though. The ground crew frequencies for 3, 6, and 10 were on the database until Ben Russell cleaned them out since they aren't really in use anymore. Thus it isn't really worth programming them in.

I've added a few frequencies that others have confirmed as still in use over the past few days. The previous list was quite lengthy and contained a lot of stuff that really was not useful anymore. The info on the Wiscomm website is not up to date and a lot of what was here appeared to have come from there originally.

I know there are more freqs out there for radio remotes (i.e. WMMR). I've caught them on close call in the past, but never wrote the stuff down.

As far as general news reporter comms go, that's pretty much a thing of the past (except for Fox like Joe said). The news helos are all over the place all day long..they keep it interesting even if there isn't as much to hear nowadays.
