Does anyone remember these? I remember seeing one advertised in PopComm about 10 years ago. Yes, I'm sure the SW RX would suffer terribly from ignition noise, but I was intrigued nevertheless.

Anyone remember the model number? I'd like to find one.

Not sure about the Phillps, but Sanyo made one that was advertised by an aircraft nav shop out of Allentown, Pa about 7 years ago. I haven't seen once since. Back in 92, I had the job of installing lights and sirens on the new Jeep Cherokees that were distributed around the country. The stereos in the ones that went overseas had built in GPS and LORAN plus SW with SSB reception. The digital filtering was pretty good.

Blapunkt (sp) a German manufacturer, also made a vehicle radio which added some SW bands, AM only. SW being previously more popular in Europe. Such auto radios will be severely handicapped by only being able to utilize the short-typical vehicle antennas. You will only receive well the powerhouse international broadcasters like the VOA, BBC ect....

Best bet finding an AM/FM/SW in dash mobile is probably ebay

You'd be far better off getting a radio made for this purpose, a mobile HF ham rig.

good luck bro

Am/fm/sw

I'm virtually sure Monitoring Times did a review on the Phillips some time ago. Don't remeber when. Could it have been ten years? Try the Monitoring Times/Grove enterprises web site for an archives search. That might get the specific information you're looking for and you can follow your pursuit from there.

Yep 10 years

I remeber seeing one of those phillips units at our Lafayette, LA hamfest, probably in
about 94 or 95. The most unique thing I remember about it was the display.
It was red, and used somewhat largely, blocky 'pixels'.

My college ham friends and I were all drooling over it.

Hello Friends:

This may be a little of topic but I remember when
I was a little boy seen a am/fm/CB radio on a Ford
(I think) Station Wagon in a dealer. I belive it was
1973 or so. ;)

The Phillips AM-FM-SW radio was a great receiver. I wish they still made it. And, no, it didn't have any noise problem worse than AM in a good installation.

Hi all,

European car radios receive LW, MW, SW and FM because if you're out of range of one you're within range of another popular band. They're not sold outside of the continent so you have to get one shipped, but it's nicer to get the whole car. BTW, these days they also come with DAB, useless here but popular there.

I looked all these over on the Sony Middle East site, but none have a CD player integrated - I wonder why?

I can listen to the BBC on XM, but am on the road quite a bit across the mid-US and while AM DXing is excellent, I'm always looking to broaden my horizons.

Maybe I need to change my avatar from Beavis to Ben Stein?
