I will be driving from Philly to the Baseball Hall of Fame 476 to 81.

Can anyone confirm the staus of OpenSky on the Turnpike (I believe they patrol 476 and Eastern PA?

Thanks

Thanks Matt

I forgot I left this question.

What about the Northeast area of PA(I forget the troop letter).

Is that OpenSky yet?

Thanks
Dic

Many of the PSP Troops in the east have been using the OpenSky system. However, just this week I have been hearing traffic from several stations (including Bethlehem, Belfast, and Swiftwater) who had been using the new system. Every now and then, stations switch back to VHF while work is done on the 800 system.

Also the stations will switch to the VHF whenever they find a coverage hole. The procedure for that is to switch to VHF and inform the dispatcher of your location so he/she can report it to the Open Scam (ah hem, Open Sky) team to have it worked on. As far as the turnpike channels go, from my understanding, they will continue to use the VHF frequencies for the foreseeable future. The coverage on the VHF frequencies for the turnpike is much better than Open Scam (there I go again, Open Sky). Also remember it isn't just PSP that uses those channels - turnpike maintenance, fire, EMS, tow trucks, etc. all use the VHF frequencies when operating on the turnpike.

I missed this thread when you first started it. Here's something that may help others in the future.

A Uniden usd formatted file for the PA Turnpike. (Any updates would be appreciated. )

The last few times I traveled that way, the radar units were using NO PL on 151.490 mHz. One time they were operating the radar in a turnpike maintenance truck and had chase cars lined up over the hill.

Northeast PA is Gibson, Dunmore, Honesdale, and Blooming Grove. And as of last week when I was there to listen, they're all still VHF analog, half-duplex.

Thank you. Unfortunately, I have never used the formatted files to program my scanner.
I do it by hand (!).

Is there a way to convert that file into something I could use otherwise?

The usd files are just txt files that you can view using Notepad or any text editor of your choice. I deleted some of the miscellaneous data so it makes a little more sense. The result is below. PL tones are listed as: C1862 for 186.2 etc.

With that in mind, I've also uploaded a usd file for the PA State Police. The first group is the Gibson barracks. The second group is all barracks. (Obviously, this is a PRE-digital listing.)

You can use this link to break down the barracks/frequency assignments.
