Phoenix police officers not happy about potential pay cuts

As I may feel a bit sorry for them having to take a pay cut, I also am a scanner listener. And since they encrypted the C-deck, I can really say I have not heard them do anything that would require higher pay. They want to block the public from knowing what they are doing makes it kinda hard to back a pay increase for them. They want community support but at the same time, want to block the community from knowing what it is they do? Damn, sorry.. Maybe they will strive to make what it is you do a little more open to the public. Then maybe we can understand why you need more money..

The story is about taking pay cuts, not a pay increase as you have suggested. Workers in any line of work would have the same concerns. Nobody likes pay cuts.

Typical short sighted Arizona "leadership" at it's finest. Doesn't matter the level (state, county or local) Arizona's elected officials always respond to a budget shortfall by cutting first responders and services for the poor. Every. Single. Time.

We should be focusing on increasing revenues by attracting more jobs, not cutting things annually while the exodus of residents (especially our cops and firefighters) to greener pastures continues unabated. Criminals aren't taking any pay cuts. If anything, thanks to these annual cutbacks, crooks stand to make MORE money from their crimes because they're less likely to be caught. Cutting pay to the officers who have so far chosen to stay in our city will only serve to chase more officers away to better opportunities elsewhere.

They have to pay for this expensive encryption radio equipment somehow, but at least they will be completely safe because no one can hear their radio dispatches. Maybe that money would have been better spent on union dues.

Pay cuts

Phoenix PD encrypts the C deck so they can catch crooks, protect your property and life as well as theirs. They could care less if you could monitor their transmissions, some day all PD radio transmissions should and will be encrypted just as the feds have done. Get over it, get an amateur license or something and have some fun.

Actually the rift between fire and pd is about to get really wide in Phx because the IAFF went behind the backs of the Police union and negotiated their own contract issues instead of providing a united front as they usualy did hence the Fire dept guys didnt face the pay and benefits cuts PD is getting. Not really the forum for this whats odd is the way this all went down as it was viewed as underhanded and backdoor and city council members like Sal Dicicio were forced to vote for a cut they didnt want. (Sals pretty tight fisted with spending money except when it comes to public safety). I hate to say it but Channel 3 is probably the reason this went down over bad eggs sitting on parking decks playing cards didnt make things look very good for some guys. Sadly a few bad apples likely ended up costing 2500+ guys a cut.

You dont think they deserve a pay raise because you can't listen to scanner traffic? Wow. There is absolutely no reason why patrol units in a major metropolitan area shouldn't be running 2 deep in higher crime areas. Cut fires budget a bit and earmark some of that money for PD. Having 20 ton trucks putting wear and tear on them needlessly responding to every fall and stubbed toe is a poor delivery system, as is building multi million dollar fire palaces with granite countertops and stainless steel fridges in them. But thats another discussion.
