    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Phone patch, MOTOtrbo, and VOIP telephone systems

I've been searching the internet, MOL, and made a couple phone calls on the subject of creating a digital phone patch with either an XPR, MTR, or SLR repeater. We've successfully integrated a patch into a legacy phone system but are finding it difficult to located information on integrating MOTOtrbo into a VOIP telephone environment that doesn't involve a third party software solution. Has anyone successfully created such a patch? Is so, could you point in a helpful direction?

A Mototrbo repeater in Digital has no analog inputs for phone patch connections. You could do it purely analog but that defeats the point of the Digital radio. Basically the repeater just passes packets of data over RF.

From the MOTOtrbo Planners Guide -

"The MOTOTRBO Digital Telephone Patch is a Motorola proprietary feature introduced in software
version R01.08.00 supporting two types of phone patch calls:
• Individual Phone Patch Call – This allows a half-duplex voice communication between
a radio user and a phone user. This communication can be initiated from either party.
• Talkgroup Phone Patch Call – This allows a half-duplex voice communication between
a phone user and a group of radio users. This type of communication can be initiated
only by the phone user.
This feature is supported in Single Site, IPSC LACs, IPSC WACs, and Capacity Plus
configurations."

Yes, but your comment qualifying the question "that doesn't involve a third party software solution." Soft of leaves our solution out.

We built an Asterisk VoIP server, and used the Xelatec interface to a MTR-3000 (actually two) for the radio system links, and a Sangoma ATA to Link a traditional PBX to the Asterisk box, as well as some SIP trunks.

The code was developed to do DID to a Talk Group directly, no over dial. A couple of DIDs direct to individual radios, and the an IVR for over dial.

All worked very well except the legacy PBX to Sangoma extensions due to CPC issues.

But note this used a collection of parts, the only people (at least in NA) licensed to go digital all the way are Avtech with the Scout consoles and VPGate units, or internal Motorola. NO ONE else can get the license for "wire line" digital IP direct to the repeater core.

I should have been more specific. Has anyone found a single piece of hardware that can be used to integrate a repeater into a VoIP telephone system? We've had no issue setting up a phone patch using the old standby Zetron Model 30 for analog phone systems. Right now I'm tinkering with a Model 30 and an ATA for use in a VoIP system.

So the answer is basically yes --

We used the MTR-3000 with the Phone Patch EID. Then we have an Asterisk server in place of the Zetron unit. The connection between the two is a USB Radio Interface box. This works with fully digital VoIP SIP trunks.
