Hello Folks

I have searched the database but have not been able to find the info. I will be staying north of PHX Sky Harbor Airport (not on the airport property, FYI) in a few weeks and plan to bring my Uniden SDS200 and Unication G4.

It appears that this is in the AOR of

Phoenix Fire District 2, stations 11, 13, 29
Phoenix Police, Mountain View District

I thought Fire and Police was on a P25 trunking system? I also saw some fire freqs on 154 MHZ.

If anyone has freqs/talk groups they can recommend for Fire and LE traffic in that area, please let me know.

Thank you

-Bill

Go into the Database for AZ, click kn Maricopa county and you’ll see all the frequencies for the Phoenix area. Phoenix FD is both VHF and on the RWC ( Phase 2 trunked ). Mesa FD is also VHF and on Topaz. Phoenix PD, and many others are all still in the clear on the RWC as well. ( phase 2 7/800MHZ )

The SDS100/200 has been hit or miss in the area due to distortion of simulcast.

G5 pagers have been known to be a little better at picking up the RWC/Topaz.

Phoenix FD uses the VHF-High A-deck channels for fire/hazmat incidents, and the RWC K-deck talkgroups for everything else. (RWC Simulcast B for FD.)
A8 and K8 should be the primary on-scene channels used in that area. The airport itself is usually A7 for aircraft emergency responses.

Phoenix PD (RWC Simulcast A) will be on their own A7 talkgroup. B7 Tac, C7 Hot, and D7 Neighborhood Enforcement Teams are all encrypted. As are everything else other than the A2 through A9 precinct dispatch talkgroups.

PD at Sky Harbor, and the Sky Harbor mundane and emergency talkgroups, are all encrypted as well. Only Sky Harbor's main dispatch is in the clear, on their specific site. You won't hear them on Simulcast A or B.

DPS (state troopers) on the freeways around you will be on Metro Central, on 460.3250 (100.0 Hz), or talkgroup 1055 on the AZWINS trunked system, and Metro East, on 460.2000 (100.0 Hz), or talkgroup 1058.

Metro Central Tac is 460.1875 (151.4 Hz), and Metro East Tac is 460.1750 (100.0 Hz), or TG 1018. I don't know if Metro Central Tac has a TG on the AZWINS.

Event 1 is TG 1009, and Event 2 is TG 1010. CI Central is 460.5000 (100.0 Hz), or TG 1013.

Statewide and State Tac, both on 460.2250, with a CTCSS of 100.0 Hz and 151.4 Hz respectively, aren't likely to be active, but it wouldn't hurt to have them programmed.

Shaw Butte and South Mountain would be the AZWINS trunked sites I'd use.

If troopers go car-to-car at an incident scene, to not tie up the repeater, they have switched to simplex on the 460.nnnn frequency in the past. I do not know if they still do it, but you won't hear that on the AZWINS TG's if they do.

The Light Rail can sometimes be interesting to listen to. I'd use the RWC North Mountain and/or South Mountain High Site(s), and focus on the emergency and security TG's, 1403 and 1406, respectively.

Hopefully, it'll cool off a little by the time you get here lol

One clarification, as it may not be clear. Phoenix PD at Sky Harbor is on Simulcast A, and encrypted.
Sky Harbor operations, both mundane and emergency, are on the Sky Harbor trunked site, and except for the main dispatch talkgroup, are all encrypted.

Actually, all airport related traffic is on Simulcast J which is right there on the airport. The PD units are on there as well and not Simulcast A. They are also dispatched from the airport dispatch center.

I'll have to look at my real information and confirm the name. RR is not always correct.
