If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is it possible to receive Pi-Star P25 ham talk groups on my G5? Has anyone tried this setup? The hotspot transmits on vhf or uhf. Thanks for any help.

As long as it follows the standard P25 protocols it should.
Are you sure they are not DMR? I knew amateur radio used P25 but wasnt aware it was still around. DMR is pretty popular.

Thanks. The Pi-Star networks support DMR, P25, and Fusion modes. There are approximately 20 talk groups covering USA, and worldwide for P25 alone. I thought it would be interesting to use my G5 to listen there also.

That’s good to know. I haven’t thought about DMR. P25 is still popular for ham radio so I’ll be very interested in the results of your test.

That’s interesting you could configure both to be active at the same time. On the G5, were you able to add multiple talk groups to a channel, or just one talk group per channel for p25?
