• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Picked up some HT600’s

Been a LONG time since I’ve had some Genesis radios but found some for a really good deal ( now a days, they are all going for pennies on the dollar ).
Anyone have any experience with the HT600/P200/MT1000 radios ? I hear they are still very good up to this day and very well made piece of gear.
Granted they are not narrowband complaint, I’m using them strictly to monitor some analog UHF frequencies in the area anyway so that doesn’t really bother me.
Anyone still have these going 30 years later ?

I was doing some research on these and several long time Motorola members were saying that the HT600 is one of the best built / most sensitive radio Motorola has made.
It’s nice to hear that people still use some of these Genesis series of radios considering it’s almost 2021 !

I used HT600's and P200's on GMRS for many years. Used them a lot while riding ATV's. Dropped one along the trail and no damage.

As you pointed out, not narrow band. But durable and pretty decent radios. I still have one in my garage, not sure what I'm gonna do with it.

I am one that thinks they are among the best radios built. VERY durable. The only issue that comes up with them is
the fracturing of the solder where the antenna "socket" connects to the circuit board. People handle the radios by the
antenna, and it breaks the solder. Resolder that, and the radio is good for several more years. I probably have a couple dozen
of them. Still one of the best choices for VHF- LO. Have worked on HUNDREDS of them.

I still have a few, but the batteries died years ago. While they were great radios, I will not spend the $ for fresh batteries.

Pretty much same position I'm in. I've got a VHF model at work and a UHF model in my garage. Both have shot batteries and it's just not worth buying new ones.

Good conversation pieces. Also good hammers/door stops/wheel chocks.

I was hoping you’d respond ! Glad to know you still like these radios / use them ! One of the ones I got looks like the top of the case is chipped away. Hopefully it won’t effect the integrity of the case much. They both look to be in mint shape otherwise

Those look like beauties. Really nice shape.
The only thing those little chips might effect would be water proofing.
And not all that much.

FYI - just sent some radios ( including a HT600 ) to Petnrdx to fix / align. I must say, he is THE guy to see if anyone has any older Motorola radios that need repair / general alignment. He fixed all my radios issues and then some. He is a fantastic guy. Would not hesitate to send any gear to have fixed his way again !

I actually have 2 very clean P200s in a working fleet that I maintain for a family members' business. Very warm audio, pleasing to the ear.

I actually think the P200 is the best looking Genesis series radio. The MT1000 is probably the best since most models have scan and more than 6 channels.

I have a couple low band MT1000s programmed for 10 meters. I'm looking forward to playing around with them during a good 10 meter band opening.

Yeah, wouldn't it be nice if the VHF HI and UHF HT600 and P200 scanned?
It's so ODD that the P200 LB had scan, but the other "entry level" Genesis did not.
I have often thought I should try to see if I could hack the codeplug of a VHF P200 to scan.
I should look into that.
Probably the controller or firmware for the LB version is completely different.
