Wanting a pigtail to relieve the strain on the Home patrol. I have seen some SMA male to BNC female cables in both RG142 and RG174.

I know everyone says stay away from the 174 due to loss on high frequencies but is that a issue with a short run? Would the RG142 be better and flexible enough? Thanks!

On a 1 foot run, RG-174 will have 0.314 dB loss (at 900 MHz). If that's a problem for your setup you have other serious problems. Keep the jumper very short (the indicated 1 foot is good) and you'll probably never notice the difference in signal loss over a direct connection without the jumper.

RG-142B/U is about the size of RG-58 but double shielded, Teflon insulation and its not very flexible. You might look into the Teflon replacement for RG-174 which is RG-316, it makes very nice short jumpers for what you need.
