Any update on Pima County Wireless Integrated Network (PCWIN) system? It's been a year since the last update in the database at http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=2341

Things are not so happy with this system. Some members of the committee are upset that TOO has not signed a MOA, yet has had the opportunity to do so for over 7 months, with no real signature in sight....

Also, there's hint that TPD is not happy with this system too.

Could prove interesting, but don't expect this site to be operational any time real soon. Since the lack of signature from TOO puts into question whether or not a microwave system would be located for use on Kitt Peak. The system may get another redesign without out TOO as part of the system. If that happens, that will effect western Pima County.

Could be back to the drawing board for the system layout, before they move on to building it out :<

I just read that the Nation had a change in goverment and that no one apparently has had the oppertunity to reveiw what was sent to them and that, is what the hold up is. However, according to the last committe meeting summeries, the committe voted to move forward with or without the Nation's participation.

By 'Nation" I refer to the Tohono O'Dom Indian Nation west of the metro Tucson area.

I guess this also has something to do with Kitt peak, which they hold as sacred ground I belive. Not having Kitt Peak would adversely affect the planned foot-print of the PCWIN system. Apparentky the Nation approved some modification to Kitt Peak's existing sites but the PCWIN proposals were not included in that reveiw( if I read that right).

Interesting reading those summeries are.

Hi Mark,

Yep, that's why I added the link to the PCWIN site (per request), so that you could read for yourself our politics at work, yep even at the LE level !

Since they mentioned connecting this proposed system up with Yuma County's new P25 system ( which I belive is going to be part of that new western multi-county network), might we assume Pima County is leaning towards a similar system as well?

I'd really like to know why the Nation is dragging thier feet on this-I wonder if they really are behind because of recent elections or for other reasons. They would benefit from this as much as any other resident of the county would, maybe even more so since they have a lot of small isolated communities out there on the reservation. Better comms means faster response times.

Seems if I recall right, the state went through something simular when the CAP was built.

Ah well....

Hey Mark,

Based on the current stall, don't know where they might be leaning.

As far as the Nation, it's been suggested in some of the meeting minutes, that this is a typical response - slower than other responses. Plus Kitt Peak is a sacred mountain for the Nation, and they are trying to get some of the scopes off the mountain, it's probably harder to justify pulling stuff away, and adding other things to it, when they want the things to go away :>

And so the politics continues.....it might be quite a bit down the road before Pima County gets a system that they were looking for.....

Rodger that. And when havn't they been trying to clear the mountain? Ah well, as you say-the politics continues. I really hope though that we'll get our system sooner rather then later. Probably wishfull thinking on my part.

Minutes from the 10/25/2007 meetings show that TOO Nation has signed the MOU and the plans will proceed as originally designed. Now to see what happens for real ...
