Okay guys. I think I am a little behind the times and I hope I am not wasting anybody's time.

I have a BC 246 T [portable].
I live in Largo, Florida.

I used to do quite a bit of scanning, but I met a man who stole my heart. And then he left me. After a 4 year break, I got out my trusty scanner and dusted it off and turned it on again.

The problem. I have a whole system set up for pinellas county frequencies. Well. My scanner is as silent as Carlos Pena's bat.

Well, maybe not that bad.

From what reading I have done there is a new sheriff in town name P25.

What, briefly, do I need to know about this P25?

So, will my scanner pick this up? Do I need a new scanner? And if so, which one?

Thanks

Short answer, yes your scanner will work. Better answer, we are changing over to P25, so soon it will not. You will need a digital P25 capable scanner. Uniden or GRE/RS Has some good ones.

" yes your scanner will work"

I have had the scanner on for a month, on the Pinellas County System [which on my scanner was all of the law enforcement in Pinellas County]. And I haven't heard one transmission.

So if they are going to be changing "soon" why am I picking up nothing???

I used to listen to Largo PD, PCSO, Treasure Island, St. Pete Police, Pinellas Park PD, etc.

Now I hear nothing. So in my humble opinion, they done already switched over to the P25.

The scanner works on the Clearwater EDACS system. I pick them up loud and clear, except the detectives etc. have moved to digital or encryption.

Thanks for responding.

Good Evening;

I just read your post. I don't usually monitor LE transmissions, so I turned on my PRO-97, and copied Tarpon Springs PD and Pinellas County Sheriff A3 Dunedin/Palm Harbor transmissions with no problems.

I'm not familiar with your scanner, but according to the RR Wiki, your firmware needs to be updated because of 800 MHz rebanding.

My PRO-97 supposedly doesn't work, but I have the Ridgecrest frequencies programmed in and usually monitor BayFlite and Fire Rescue with no problems. I just copied a comm on MED-E also.

My PRO-93 works OK also. I'm thinking that if it's been 4 years, check the database and make sure that you have the updated frequencies programmed in. That MAY be enough to get you going.

Let me know if you get it receiving. If not, maybe we can meet up. I can pull your manual if you don't have one, so I can get basically familiar with your radio.
