I noticed there is a new TRS listed in the database for Pineville. Any word on when this will be up and running?

Bob,

Here is what I am hearing. I think this is all part of the plan for Mint Hill to be dispatched by Pineville, Pineville has had FCC approved Freq's for a while (I think) Mint Hill just got approval. The word on the street is Mint Hill is switching from Matthews dispatch to Pineville on July 1 2006. I would bet this is when Pineville goes fully live also. Again this is "street talk" but it makes sence to me. Mint Hill Commissioners approved this years budget including a 400 foot communications tower to be built on Town property. Mint Hill is in the beginning stages of building a TRS to, I think. I assume they want away from Charlotte's big hands, but I am not sure it is really smart to pull from the system, look at what all that system has to offer, yes there are user fees, but Charlotte has alot of pull to get things repaired, etc..

It must be a small town thing. Mooresville is just bringing a system online. With all the interoperability the major systems have, I can't understand why these towns are building their own systems. Viper should be up and running here before the July, 2006 date you mentioned, and the towns wouldn't have to pay for the build. I sometimes think that the bean counters are looking to spend the tax money for fear of losing it.

I understand The Town of Mint Hill thinks they are going to make money on the tower they are going to build. Rent space to cell companies, but the potential of a TRS going down and having problems could be very costly. I just hope the explore all their options before jumping out of the pan and into the fire. Not that I am all for the large systems, but there is some merit in the abilities of those systems to "stay alive" when things happen, if you know what I mean. also cities like Charlotte, have the $ to spend at the drop of a hat if something happens.

The system is active as of Yesterday (8/18) -
So far, the only thing I have heard is Pineville PD on TG 80; I have my scanner set up at my office (just down the street from the PD) and will be listening for anything else that pops up there

While I see your point about saving money, etc. remember that Mooresville wasn't origninally going it alone. Iredell County (& most likely Statesville) was supposed to join in building a countywide system. When the county commisioners didn't fund anything and decided to hold off, Mooresville had secured funding and decided to go ahead.

Also remember that SHP is more than happy to have these smaller jurisdictions helping with initial overhead costs (towers,etc.). In exchange for tower space, the smaller systems will be granted limited statewide talkgroup access and possibly other perks.

Unfortunately, any way it happens, the taxpayers are footing the bill.

As for Pineville & Mint Hill going on their on, maybe what you eluded to earlier is the closest thing to the money: getting out from Charlotte's shadow.

Just my few cents worth.

Pineville is APCO25

Was monitoring this system on the way to work this morning and it is APCO 25 with digital, althought the system here in RR.com shows as analog.
Heard Private Calls in the 7xxxxx ID range definitely in digital on the 396.
Anyone else tracked any TG ID's?

Nope, just the dispatch talkgroup.

I was talking with the PFD fire chief Monday morning. Pineville will eventually set up some talkgroups on the local system, but he's not interested in switching.

The chief's thoughts are that the county fire service currently provides the radios and talkgroups for free, and they have interoperability with everyone except York County. With the system being built by Char-Meck to extend interoperability to the surrounding counties, even comms with York Co won't be a concern ... unless Char-Meck doesn't keep to the build-out timetable specified in the funding.
