Hello all,

Just curious after the incident Saturday, who dispatches for Pittsburgh Bureau of Police? Does the City have its own dispatchers and operators, or are they dispatched through the County 911 Center?

Reason I ask, is because I'm 100 miles north in Erie, PA. At one time our City police department dispatched in house, and those duties were eventually transferred to the County 911 Center when they became active in 2010, and it was highly disliked for years by the officers.

If PBP is dispatched through their County 911, did they have their own in-house dispatchers at one point in time?

Also on a side note, are there any long term plans to transition over to P25 and/or digital? Our County is in the near final stages of implementing their new P25 digital simulcast trunking system. I'm surprised a city as large as Pittsburgh is still running analog, but I'm not complaining though either.

Thanks all for the insight!

PS: thought I posted this in the Pennsylvania Forum, so I apologize.

City used to have its own dispatchers years ago down on railroad st in strip district. They were brought into county 911 and is considered a seperate zone "Central"

Railroad st City EOC I understand has been updated and is available as an backup center if needed.

They are still conventional/non-trunked, as are many other large cities such as Chicago, NYPD, Dallas, and Los Angeles.

How come they have it set up that way? A lot of places are pushing poor performance 800 900 mhz digital trunks and propietary systems that don't work with one another very well or even each other when not programmed for the same system. Are you telling me the biggest most crime heavy cities with a much higher volume of users and crowding where they need these things to work flawleslly more then ever are capable of doing so without buying into a gimmick system that touts "interoperability" as a buzzword and delivers on that promise by severely reducing or all but eliminatinging actual interop? Color me shocked!
