BCT15X: PL/DPL tones with bct15x

i just purchased this scanner, so im new to the whole PL/DPL tones, when entering the following frequency and DPL tone, im unable to hear anything on that frequency, but as soon as i turn off the PL/DPL option. i can hear the frequency just fine.

155.74500 KVW938 RM 132 DPL GTFIR Fire Dispatch FMN Fire Dispatch

any ideas? sorry for the noob question.

You're entering a CTCSS tone instead of a DCS code, or vice versa.

Either that or he entered it right but the database is wrong and a different DPL or PL is actually used in real life.

Never program receive PL or DPL unless you know you need it. They keep you from hearing everything on the frequency.

im pretty sure i entered it correctly.

on the frequency that im trying to do this on, i pick up another county that's over 100 miles from me, so im trying to cut that interference out.

maybe have the scanner do a search in the PL?

instead of programming DPL 132, choose "Search" and when there is activity, you should see the correct tone.

That's pretty unlikely, even with an outdoor antenna. I have a better-than-average outdoor antenna, and don't pick up much past 50 miles.

seriously i do, i live in Lafayette County in Wisconsin. and i pick up the police dispatch in Dodge County WI.

and its usually pretty clear when i pick it up, and i have a indoor mag mount antenna..

OK, i did a search as a few people mentioned above.

it came up as 91.5 PL. so i went in and set the tone for that frequency and it works.

I usually program that kind of frequency 3 times right after each other. The first with the local PL and second one with Dodge county PL and the third one with search PL/DCS and with an attention tone.

That way you can choose what to listen to and not, and if some unknowns or someone change their PL it will get you attention to it.
