PL tones??

Good Morning,

In looking at the Database, I've noticed that some of the listings show a PL frequency
and some don't. How is this information obtained. Surely the common VHF-hi band
scanner can't determing that. I'm just curious as to how that's determined.

No one uses VHF Hi scanners anymore, the scanners sold in stores range in prices of 99.99 to 1,200.00 dollars. the decode and display PL, DPL, NAC codes and will show trunking system ID's. they have user programable LCD TEXT displays. They can be set for step sizes from 100KHz to 3.1750 KHz. if you ask them nicely, some modles will even talk to you. Welcome to the New Generation of Communications.

I have 3 or 4 scanners that determine PL and DPL for me. It's a pretty common thing any more! :wink:

PL consists of a very low-frequency tone, so you MIGHT be able to hook a frequency counter to the audio output of your scanner and measure it. However, you will have to do this while the transmitter is keyed, but nobody is talking.

It probably would be hit and miss.

Most scanners have a "TONE SEARCH" feature that will search for the proper squelch code/tone for you.
