There is the usual standby- Radio Shack

Radio Shack and pawn shops are the only places that sell scanners in Lafayette that I know of. I wouldn't buy one from a pawn shop because the scanners they sell are usually old beat up models that are way over-inflated in price.
If you want a brand other than Radio Shack, like Uniden, AOR, Icom, etc., you will have to order one. There are plenty of internet dealers for these brands.

I only could find Radio Shack scanners in Lafayette. I bought my uniden 296D from the scanner master website. It came in pretty quick. It is a good scanner.
I purchased my Uniden Bearcat 250D from Scannerworld. After an extensive search online, I found they had the best price.

I've dealt with them off and on since 1979 and never had a problem with them.
Also if you live near a truck stop try checking there. I've seen Uniden scanners at many truck stops in my travels. Maybe a bit more expensive than mail order, but they're close by.

I was somewhat surprised to find that Wal Mart in my area carries the Uniden BC92 (weeks before others even had it!), and they also have the Uniden BC350C. Prices were just under $100, too. Found them in the car audio section behind the glass display case with the CB's and whatnot.

I have never bought from the second but I have bought 2 unidens from bearcatscanner.com with nothing but success. Good luck.
