What frequencies are you picking the system up on?

They are licenced on Mt. Pluto, Kings Beach and Mt. Rose for
161.8250
161.8375
161.8500

After trying to scan the system in trunked mode with no luck I just put the frequencies in in conventional mode and do get traffic from here in Natomas but it's to digitized to tell what they are saying.

hm weird i dont know why its not working for you i can pick them up just fine useing the stock antenna that came with the 396xt well i dont know if you ever come out to citrus heights but if you do bring your scanner park by fire station 21 on greenback and you should be able to pick them up

I had the system programed wrong, got it fixed and I am now getting traffic. Now we need to find out who's talking, they seem busy whoever it is.

Perfect timing! Not even a minute after reading your post, Rocklin PD came in on one scanner on their normal conventional frequency, and simulcast in P25 on 161.850 on my BC785D in conventional mode. In conventional mode I get a birdie or dead carrier on 161.800.

EDIT: Just heard a fire dispatch on 154.355 (Placer Fire west) simulcast on one of the trunked frequencies in conventional mode. I'm stuck scanning this way on the 785. I get an error when I try to enter the 6.25 spacing.

I had a feeling it was Rocklin PD just by the unit numbers but did not monitor long enough to confirm.

I don't have my digital radios on an outside antenna and I don't get the system while inside. Going to need to do some radio rearranging now.

Placer Co TRS

If I am understanding you people correctly, to hear anything from this system requires a digital scanner. In other words, I can't receive it on a PSR-300.

Is anyone using a PSR-500 or PRO-106 to track this VHF TRS? I know these radios can handle 800 MHz and UHF trunked systems, but I have not seen a VHF trunked system out there until this one.

Just went outside (great day) and did about 30 minutes of quick monitoring.

I can confirm
2247 is Placer Fire West, simulcast of 154.3550
2248 is Rocklin PD, simulcast of 156.0300

I did get traffic on Roseville FD 154.0400, Lincoln FD 151.0100, Lincoln PD 156.0900 and did not get any traffic on the P25 system.

I would say give it a try.

It is a full P25 trunked system. On the Uniden radios it programs as a P25 system NOT Motorola or any other, and you do need to enter the band plan.

My Pro-96 doesn't like the channel spacing. It keeps changing all of the frequencies. So steer clear of that one if you're looking for a new (older type) scanner for this system.

Did a little more monitoring tonight.

Did not hear any new talk groups but did hear Placer Sheriff West on 160.5450 and Auburn PD on 154.6500 and they did not come over the P25 system.

I was able to monitor units while on a house fire in Granite Bay on 2247 and the transmissions with dispatch were very clear.

I would love to know if they have any field units with P25 radios because at times the analog system was about a half second ahead of the P25 system and at other times the P25 system was ahead of the analog system.

As of now all voice traffic has been on 161.8500 and the control channel has been on 161.8000.

I am very impressed with the audio quality of this system, we will need to see what happens as it develops.

I am surprised that this system is licenced for Mt. Pluto, Kings Beach and Mt. Rose but seems to be transmitting from some place closer to Sacramento (Auburn?) they also are only licenced for 161.8250,161.8375 and 161.8500.

If I was going to put up a repeater for this system to handle south Placer, Pilot Hill might be a good location.

As far as licensing goes, they could be using a license for one of the participating agencies (city of Auburn, city of Rosevile, etc) and not Placer county.

I did a frequency search for the entire county and all I got was the licences to Placer County outlined above.
