Just north of where I am there was a plane crash, comfirmed 1 fatality, I had heard unreadable Comms on 121.500 before crash.
SO said NTSB has been called out, anyone know what freqs NTSB and FAA use in CA?
The best info I have on NTSB frequencies is:
166.175 R/S Security
165.6625 Security Tactical
165.750 Investigators Tactical
165.6375 Security Common
172.600 Air Safety Common
163.100 Accident response teams
The last one is one of two federal government wide common frequencies. The other is 168.350. This came from a 2002 Government Radio Systems directory by Bob Kelty. I have some better information about the NTSB, but I can't seem to find it right now. I have so many 5-6" ringed binders I can't always put my hands on something when I want to.
It's been a tough couple months for general aviation in the eastern Sierra. I think we have had 3 crashes with four fatalities in two months. What is unusual about them is that someone witnessed every crash. Most planes go down in far more remote areas and might not be found for months or years. One of the most famous crashes with a survivor was written up in a book and a made for TV movie with the titles "And I Alone Survived." When you are familiar with the terrain involved in this one, you just can't believe that the survivor walked out. More recently a body of a WWII era serviceman was found in a receding glacier in the Sierra, not far from where INYORICK lives.
