Ah, wondered what Bethany had going on. I just got home, and the police and fire were both going nuts.

They are on-scene with OKC. BPD is doing traffic control - 10th is closed west of Eagle Lane.

BFD unit just said OCFD told him they are turning things over to FAA.

Oh how I wish I could hear OCFD... *wailing and gnashing of teeth* :p

You haven't missed much. Traffic is all assigned to FD TAC 6. 601 has command. They have been doing it all with handheld extinguishers. We couldn't get in there with the foam trailer or the crash trucks so Airport Fire units did not respond. They put us on standby right off the bat.

Yeah, not much radio traffic for this. But I still want to be able to hear OCFD again, dagnabbit! :( Just my perpetual whine-and-moan...

Sounds like a heck of a crash, though. Ch 9 had a guy on who watched it crash, he thought it was a stunt plane with a very unprofessional pilot at first - except the plane was spewing dark black smoke. Then it went down with a large fireball. The reporter mentioned someone else thought the plane might have sucked a bird into an engine.

Ch 5 just talked with someone who was on 10th right north of the crash. He said he ran in to see if there were any survivors and only saw a body. Got pretty choked up while saying that, understandably.

Cessna 500 twin-engine business jet, took off from Wiley Post and crashed within 5 minutes. The doctor who owned the plane is still in surgery - so obviously not a passenger. They aren't sure who / how many were on it at this point.

This is a heavily wooded area south of 10th, used to be a paintball field years ago.

You didn't miss much on the fire side now okc police side that is a different story. Been a while since OKC has had a plane crash. Good job by all those involved.

I knew the pilot by first name only and was not aware I actually knew him. I had talked to Tim at the gym, I workout at just a few days ago. I recognized him when I saw his picture on the television this evening. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

When Hefner went to PD TAC 1, I was really frustrated. I use those transmissions, among many other pieces of information, to direct crews where they need to be, and more importantly to keep them away from danger and getting in the way.

You're right though...fantastic job to those of you in the middle of all this. My job is so much easier in a way. I have the ability to step back and can prioritize things. When you're on the ground, you have to have excellent instincts and trust them.

It seems that there were several men on board who were an intregal part of this community. Covering this type of story is mostly horrible. One of the good things though that happens, is that the community strengthens during trying times. We're seeing in in NYC this morning again, just like we've seen s many times here at home.

An update on that plane crash was that a bird hit the plane, because someone saw it fall???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even if a bird went through the engine, you wouldnt see the bird fall!!!

A tiny bird isnt going to bring a Cessna Down.

According to several people in the area that saw the crash said something bigger than a bird fell from the plane. According to the news the flight recorder was not working and there was not contact with the tower before the crash. I think it may have been something else that brought down the plane. However it will be sometime before we know exactly what happened
