Plane coming in with engine problems at TIA

TFD 6I (36112)

Engine-4, 5, 24, 31, Ladder-4, 30, 31, Unit-50, 51, Hazmat, Car-642 on assignment, an American Airlines plane in bound carrying 180 people with mechanical problems.

EDIT: Plane landed safely, all structural companies returned to service by 642, hazmat still responding for a large oil leak.

0921: All companies in service, mechanics onscene.

4's and 5's were on it but 17's wasnt? Man I think 4's, 24's and 27's will put themselves on just about anything, I could see the rescue task force from 4's being a special assignment but not the engine and the ladder.

Do they "put themselves" on lots of different jobs or do they just end up getting assigned to several different jobs?

I've heard these three companies come on the radio and tell dispatch to "put them on the assignment" with incidents in other districts. Its nearly 15 miles for engine and ladder 4 to go to the airport whereas engine 17 has two blocks. Towards the end of the year last year engine 27 was jumping anything east of sheridan and north of 81st to get their run numbers up to be the busiest company in the city (info provided by E22 captain). They got cancelled by the district chiefs all the time, but they still got a run number for their log book. Anyhow, I just thought it was strange how that assignment turned out to the airport.

What's this busiest company in the city stuff you speak of? All of those firemen get paid the same. Is there some kind of special prize for busting your butt?

Of course its bragging rights, lol, dont talk to me about busting my butt, I did it for free long enough. I was just saying when you run 15 miles out of your district someone else is gonna have to run 15 miles to cover yours. It increases response times when you jump calls, and thats a fact.
